Films
Links to films about Wabanaki culture/history, presented at NHHS in Summer 2023 (WEBB co-sponsored with NHHS), as well as other excellent films:
- Dawnland: a documentary about cultural survival and stolen children in Maine; also here
- Agwiden
- Bounty
- The Penobscot: Ancestral River, Contested Territory
- Voices From the Barrens
- Also, a series of short films called The Reciprocity Project with at least one of the films features Wabanaki people.
Books
- Dawnland Voices: An Anthology of Indigenous Writing from New England, edited by Siobhan Senier
- Sacred Instructions: Indigenous Wisdom for Living Spirit Based Change by Sherry Mitchell, Penobscot. A great description of her book here in the Fedco Seeds catalog recommends “keeping several copies on hand because you’ll keep giving them away.”
Speakers
- James E. Francis, Penobscot Nation historian. An example of his talk “Penobscot Sense of Place” can be seen here in a 2020 lecture hosted by the Osher Map Library at the University of Southern Maine
- Maulian Dana, Penobscot Nation Tribal Ambassador. Examples of her talks include one here, “Tribal Sovereignty in Wabanaki Homeland” from the 2022 Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Commonground Fair and another one here, “Indigenous People in Maine are Not Mascots” as featured on TEDx Talks in 2019
